Long hours of standing or sitting? Here's how a massage can relieve your body

ree

Let me tell you a little story about myself. Something that happened to me for a while, but I had no idea it was happening until I got a big bill for it later.

Because of my job, I spend a lot of hours on my feet. However, I do take breaks between patients. However, when I have a day with multiple appointments, the word "sit down" doesn't even cross my mind (I admit it).

Have you ever lost track of time while doing something for work or a routine activity and forgotten to take active breaks to rest your body for a few minutes?

I went through a period where I became a workaholic. Now that I'm telling you this, I realize that I never stopped; I just stopped when I went to sleep. I actually felt good, quite productive. Yes, I had a little pain in my neck, but it wasn't something that prevented me from doing my work.

One day, I was at home getting ready for the next day, and as I was about to leave, I literally felt a whiplash in my neck that completely paralyzed me. I immediately called my doctor, and with an x-ray, they determined that I had a neck injury from standing for so many hours and poor posture.

And yes, even massage therapists go through these situations. From that moment on, I decided to take my breaks during the workday seriously and get my own therapeutic massages with a great colleague. Thanks to them, I've regained flexibility in my neck and back.

So if you're the kind of person who spends hours a day in front of a computer or standing at a desk, keep reading because you're probably going to need a therapeutic massage later on.

The effects of prolonged sitting or standing

Let me tell you from personal experience: spending long hours in the same position can lead to a number of health problems, such as

  • Back pain: Lack of exercise and poor posture can cause muscle tension and lower back pain.

  • Swollen feet and legs: Poor circulation and lack of exercise can cause fluid retention and heaviness in the legs.

  • Headaches: Muscle tension in the neck and shoulders can cause tension headaches.

  • Chronic fatigue: Accumulated stress and chronic pain can leave you feeling constantly tired and without energy.

How can a therapeutic massage help you?

If you felt like I was talking about you in the previous text, then you need to keep reading this.

A therapeutic massage is much more than just a moment of relaxation. It's a powerful tool to relieve pain, improve circulation, reduce stress, and promote relaxation. Through different techniques, you can work on the most tense areas of your body, releasing tension and restoring balance.

  • Pain relief: (As I mentioned at the beginning of this article that I suffered from a lot of tension in my neck and back), when I started getting therapeutic massages, I felt how the muscle and joint pain was reducing until it calmed the discomfort in my body.

  • Improved circulation: It wasn't my case to have swollen legs and/or feet, but if you are suffering from this, massage maneuvers stimulate blood and lymphatic circulation to reduce swelling and heaviness in these parts of the body.

  • Stress reduction: I can assure you that therapeutic touch has a relaxing effect on the nervous system that helps reduce cortisol levels and promotes a sense of well-being. I tell you this as a professional and as a patient as well.

  • Increased energy: After getting my therapeutic massages, I've felt how muscle tension has been released and circulation has improved in me; massages definitely make you feel more energized and revitalized.

And the best thing we'll leave for last because you can start your massage therapy from the comfort of your home, to relax completely without having to worry about anything else. Plus, as your trusted massage therapist in Florida, I offer you the opportunity to choose the schedule that best suits you to enjoy a personalized experience full of well-being.

Don't let work stress and poor posture affect your quality of life. Give yourself a moment of self-care and recover your energy!
